FinMind ("we," "our," or "us") provides a personal finance application on the web and as a native iOS app. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, share, and retain information when you use FinMind at finmindmoney.com, app.finmindmoney.com, and the FinMind iPhone app (together, the "Service").
This policy is meant to match how the Service works today. Our Terms of Use apply as well. If you have questions, contact us at support@finmindmoney.com.
When you create an account, we collect your email address and password (or Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple, described below), and profile details you provide such as a display name and avatar.
We store the financial information you put into FinMind, including accounts, balances, transactions, budgets, goals, rules, trip plans, and related notes or receipts you upload.
If you connect a financial institution, Plaid retrieves account, balance, and transaction history for that connection (currently about 730 days of transactions) and provides it to FinMind. We store that information in your account and store Plaid access tokens using security measures designed to protect them so the connection can keep working until you remove that linked bank or delete your account. Connecting a bank does not give us permission to debit that account for subscription fees. Plaid's own terms and privacy notices apply to its services; see Plaid's legal pages.
If you join or create a household, we store household membership (including name, email, and avatar) so members can see who is in the household. See section 5 for what financial data members can see.
If you subscribe on the website, Stripe collects and stores your payment method. If you subscribe in the iOS app, Apple collects and stores the payment method through In-App Purchase. We store subscription status and related billing records needed to operate the paid Service. Household members may receive app access under the household owner's active subscription; they do not receive the owner's card or App Store account details.
We collect information such as IP address, device and browser data, and how you use the Service. The website uses cookies and similar technologies, including cookies used to keep you signed in (Supabase session cookies) and browser storage for in-app preferences (such as language and view settings). The iOS app may store a session token on device, and may use Face ID or the device passcode to unlock the app locally. If you enable notifications, we may store a device push token. Plaid Link on iOS uses the same bank-connection flow as the website.
FinMind uses Google and Apple for identity in different ways, and uses Plaid for bank data. These are not the same data flow.
If you choose Google to create or sign in to an account, Google provides identity information for that sign-in. We receive what Google provides for standard sign-in, typically your email address, name, and profile photo. We use that information to create and authenticate your FinMind account. We do not request access to Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, or Contacts, and we do not access the contents of your Google account. We do not sell this information or use it for advertising.
If you choose Sign in with Apple on the website or in the iOS app, Apple provides identity information for that sign-in. We receive what Apple provides for standard sign-in, typically an email address (which may be Apple's Hide My Email relay) and a name if you share it. We use that information to create and authenticate your FinMind account. We do not receive your Apple ID password or payment details from Sign in with Apple.
Trip planning features call Google Maps and Places using FinMind's server API key. That is not data from your Google account. We may store place details you look up (such as names, addresses, and photos Google returns) so trip planning can work.
Bank accounts, balances, and transactions come from Plaid when you connect an institution. That information is not Google data.
We use the information we collect to:
We do not currently use generative AI or large language models to process your financial data. Transaction categorization uses Plaid categories together with rules and heuristics. If that changes, we will update this policy.
A pending invitation does not share financial data. After you accept a household invitation, active members can see each other's accounts and transactions, including accounts labeled personal. On-screen view filters change what you look at; they do not block that access.
Budgets, goals, categorization rules, and billing details stay with each person's login and are not shared as household data.
You should only invite people you trust with that information. You can leave a household, and an owner can remove a member, in Settings.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not sell your financial data. Google, Apple, Plaid, and Stripe are described in the sections above (Google Sign-In and Maps/Places, Sign in with Apple, linked banks, and billing).
We use Sentry for error monitoring and may record sampled session replays to help us diagnose product issues. These recordings are processed by Sentry. Account deletion does not remove Sentry data that was already collected.
We also use third-party services to operate specific parts of FinMind. Supabase supports authentication and database infrastructure; Resend delivers email; Cloudflare Turnstile supports bot protection on sign-in and sign-up; Logo.dev provides merchant and institution logos when we request an image for a domain or name; and Vercel Analytics measures how the Service is used (for example, page views). Their involvement depends on the feature or service being used.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the Service or our users, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
We use security measures designed to protect the information we store, including access controls and protection of Plaid access tokens. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We keep information while your account is open and as needed to provide the Service. You can export data and remove linked institutions in Settings. Removing a linked bank in Settings disconnects that Plaid connection when no FinMind accounts still depend on it.
When you delete your account, we delete the FinMind account and application data that our account-deletion process is designed to remove, disconnect your linked bank connections, and retain certain information that remains in systems such as our payment processor, logs, backups, or error-monitoring systems, or that we are required to retain. For example, Stripe customer and subscription objects are not deleted from Stripe; Apple In-App Purchase records remain with Apple; some audit records may be kept in anonymized form; Sentry data (including session replays already collected), application logs, email copies, and backups are not purged as part of account deletion.
You must cancel an active or trialing subscription before you can delete your account. On the website, deleting your account is available in Settings under Data & Privacy. In the iOS app, account deletion is available in Settings and requires reauthentication. Managing the account only on the website is not the deletion path for the iOS app.
You can:
To exercise these choices, use Settings or email support@finmindmoney.com.
The Service is for people who are at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live). We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a person under 18 has created an account, contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
We and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. If you use the Service from another country, you understand that your information may be processed outside the country where you live.
We may update this Privacy Policy. We will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy. Review this page from time to time.
